Glowing skin is always in, and protecting it is the ultimate act of self-care! 💖 Did you know May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month? As your aesthetician, I want to remind you that healthy skin is beautiful skin. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the US, but you can significantly reduce your risk by taking simple steps. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends:
☀️ Seek Shade: Especially during peak hours (10 am – 2 pm). Give your skin a break from those strong rays!
👚 Wear sun-protective clothing: Rock those long sleeves and wide-brimmed hats. They’re not just stylish, they’re your skin’s best friends!
🧴 Broad-Spectrum SPF 30+: A daily MUST-HAVE! Rain or shine, this is your shield against harmful UV rays that contribute to both skin cancer and premature aging (hello, wrinkles!). Reapply every two hours, especially after a sweat session or a dip in the pool.
🙅♀️ Say NO to Tanning Beds: These are a major no-go for healthy, youthful skin. The UV damage is real!
🏖️ Be Extra Careful Around Reflective Surfaces: Water, snow, and sand bounce rays right back at you. It’s called ground albedo. Fun-fact: We have some of the highest ground albedo in the world. Double up on sun protection!
👀 Know Your Skin: Keep an eye out for any new or changing spots. If you notice anything, don’t hesitate to reach out to a dermatologist.
👩⚕️ Annual Skin Checks: Just like your regular facial, a yearly skin exam with a board-certified dermatologist is crucial for early detection. Let’s keep your skin healthy and radiant for years to come!
